Program Manager

Our Web Search & Browse team creates front end Web applications that allow our customers to find our products quickly and accurately. We are working with many technologies, from our advanced search engines to Web personalization implementations. We need an experienced Program Manager to join our engineering team. As Program Manager, you will own the team's product plan and negotiate priorities of feature requests from internal and external customers. You will be the liaison between your team and Marketing/Sales. You will manage the team's day-to-day engineering priorities, weighing project risks against costs, to keep the team focused on projects that most benefit the company. During feature development, you will participate as a team member to ensure each feature meets our customers' expectations.

This full-time position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of program management experience, preferably in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial Web-based company. A background in software product development is also a plus. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as a strong customer focus.

Senior Software Engineer

We're looking for a talented senior software engineer to drive the development and implementation of Fatbrain.com's information architecture. The candidate will be responsible for defining data warehousing, reporting and internal application requirements, communicating deadlines and dependencies and managing multiple work efforts. The candidate should be comfortable working with customers and external groups to gather requirements and translate requirements into high level technical designs. Previous project management experiences a plus. The position requires a minimum of three years experience working as a software engineer, knowledge of at least one OOA/OOD, a B.S. in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience. Knowledge of SQL Server, C++, Crystal Reports or other similar reporting tool is also required. Experience modeling in UML preferred but not a prerequisite. Successful candidate will work effectively with both technical and non-technical users to derive the user requirements and have effective leadership, problem solving, communication, negotiation and management skills. Candidate must also be self-motivating, self-starting and aggressive with exceptional judgement and decision making abilities.

IT Engineer

We're looking for a talented network engineer proficient in all aspects of network administration with a strong and diverse Cisco background. This person will participate in capacity planning, design of networks and systems, and provide technical support and consultation for our IT department and other internal Fatbrain.com customers. This person will also serve as a liaison to vendor support. The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for the installation and support of Cisco routers and Catalyst Switches as well as Nortel phone switches. Knowledge of TCP/IP internetworking, firewalls, data communication, WAN, LAN routing issues is crucial and a minimum of two years NT or UNIX system administration experience is required. Other required qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, a solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts, an understanding of client/server security and design concepts, and a strong understanding of Internet/intranet architecture and security. Experience in IT support or administration is preferred.

Editorial Content Administrator

This position is a dynamic, fast paced Web based editorial position that requires team members to take a list of products (books, training, manuals) and actively locate product information available on the Internet. Scan and format that information into HTML files to create Web documents used the promotion and sale of technical goods.

The qualified candidate will be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Access and have basic knowledge of HTML tags. Strong Internet and Web navigation skills and basic experience with Web design software such as Adobe Illustrator, PageMaker, Quark, PowerPoint, Omni Page and Homesite. Must be detail oriented and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
